When the Colonies declared their independence of Great Britian, Solomon Dill was living in Delaware. He joined what the British called "The Rebels," served all the seven years war and was present at the surrender of Cornwallis at York-town, Virginia. He served as First Lieutenant and Captain of a company during the seven years war. After peace was declared, he returned home to Delaware, saw the disasters of the war had made, sold his farm and moved to Kentucky, and settled in Washington, Mason County, Kentucky. He forted there with Simon Kenton Boone and others; lived there when the Indians defeated McGary Boone and others at the Lower Blulicks in Kentucky. Solomon Dill was an Irishman by birth; his ancestors coming from Ireland.

Solomon married Sarah Baynard, daughter of Thomas Baynard and Unknown. (Sarah Baynard was born in 1740 in Kent Co., Delaware and died in 1830 in Clermont, OH..)
