Catherine V. Lauffer Downey, 89, of Irwin, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. She was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Irwin, a daughter of the late Frank P. and Ethel Davis Lauffer. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, and the Friday Morning Bowlers, and was a member of the Irwin Garden Club. She was a graduate of Norwin High School, Class of 1933. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius T. "Connie" Downey, on Jan. 8, 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Victoria Flaherty and her husband, Bill, of Irwin, and two grandchildren, Christian (Monica Morgenthal) Flaherty, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Julia Flaherty, of Irwin. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, with the Rev. Paul A. Becker Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon
