bullet  General Notes:

Like most of the Browns, Gladys was naturally left-handed, but her teachers made her switch once she started school, something on which she always blamed her poor penmanship. She had one of her kidneys removed when she was 21. Her family was afraid she wouldn't survive the surgery, so some paid to have her picture taken to remember her. Instead she lived another 61 years. Her siblings made up rhymes to go with their middle names to help them remember, and to poke fun at one another. Gladys' was: Gladys Ellen went a hellin'.
