F.M. Coulter and his family moved from Iowa to Kansas about 1875. Francis died in his sleep while visiting his brother Aaron at 4 East Webster Street, Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa. His death was discovered when he did not answer a call to come to breakfast. His body was taken by train from Marshalltown, Iowa, back to Conway Springs, Kansas, for burial beside his wife.
Francis married Nancy Ellen Wood, daughter of Holoferness Wood and Inez Perkins, on 25 Sep 1867 in The Courthouse In Montezuma, Poweshiek, Iowa. (Nancy Ellen Wood was born on 22 Aug 1845 in Marion, Ohio and died on 19 Jan 1919 in Conway Springs, Kansas.)
