He worked on Wally farm until he was 19 years old. He worked in the oil fields as a tool dresser/driller. He drilled over 1000 oil and gas wells. He was the inventor and patentee of the "Wally Spline". Was a stockholder of Fort Pitt Powder Company in Armstrong County and in Armstrong County Trust Company. He served as director of the Kittanning Brewery and of the Armstrong County General Hospital. He belonged to BPO Elks, Oddfellows and Macabees .He was a Methodist.
