bullet  General Notes:

In New Jersey Colonial Documents, pgs. 314-315, Calendar of Wills; 1702-3, January 30., "MELLAT, MALLAT, MARLET, John Peterson of Piscattaway, blacksmith, will of. Wife (1) Mary, who has a daughter Lidia Jebou (under age) by a previous marriage and land in West Indies and a farm in Piscattaway Township". It's possible that Jean Pierre's first wife died and he remarried. It's said that Jean Pierre migrated south around Egg Harbor, New Jersey.
His will is recorded at Camden, New Jersey 1704. Theodorus was excutor. Middlesex County, New Jersey. The French Church records say he died 1704/06.
In his will and land records, he is called John Peterson MARLATT (likely the Dutch version of Jean Pierre MERLET) and also spells his name JOHN P. MELOTT. In the same hand written will it is spelled MELOT. It identifies J. P. MELOTT, as a blacksmith. He leaves land in the West Indies to a son Peter MELLOT. "My plantation in the township of Piscataway New Jersey, to my wife and after her death to my two sons JOHN and THEODORE etc", (Theodore or Theodores being one who moved into Frederick County in that area Chat later became Washington County, Maryland.)
