bullet  General Notes:

Brought to the U.S. by his parents first to Rhode Island, then to Shrewsbury.

After marriage to Hannah, he settled on land for which he received a patent in 1777 under "Grants and concessions made by the proprietors", a record of which is preserved in land warrant records in the office of the Surveyot General of East Jersey. The estate was 240 acres, and Restore added to it in 1687.

Occupation: Husbandman
Church: Society of Friends.
They were married at the home of William Shattuck in Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ. Restore and Hannah both made their mark on the record; theirs is the first marriage recorded in the minutes of Shrewsbury, MM. The only surname Shattuck to attend were William and Hannah.
Restore, 4th child and 3rd son of Richard and Abigail, born at Plymouth, Eng July 3, 1652 came to Shrewsbury, NJ with his parents in 1665, resided there until 1692, when he removed to Northampton Twp, Burlington Co. NJ where he had purchased 570 acres of land in 1688, and resided there until his death, July 20, 1741. He was a member of the West Jersey Assembly from Burlington Co, 1701 and joined with his colleagues and the Provincial council in the petition to King William to confirm Andrew Hamilton as Governor of the Colony. The following year, when the Proprietors of East and West Jersey surrendered their respective governmental rights to the Crown and Queen Anne united them into one province, he was the representative of Burlington Co in the first joint Assembly at Perth Amboy, in 1703, he was re-elected in 1704, and served until its dissolution in 1706. He was an active and esteemed member of Mt. Holly Meeting of Friends, which was held at his house until the erection of a meeting house in 1716. he married, at Shrewsbury, Nov 6, 1674, Hannah, daug. of William Shattuck, of Boston, MA where she was born July 8, 1654. She died in 1728, and he married (second) Martha, widow of Joshua Owen, of Springfield, Cumberland County,24 Oct. 1729. Restore and Hannah (Shattuck) Lippincott had 9 children, the second of whom, Abigail born as Shrewsbury, NJ, Feb 16, 1677 married in 1697 James Shinn, above mentioned. Another dau, Elizabeth, born 1690, married in 1712 George Shinn, of the next generation of that family.
Restore is buried in the lst Friends' Burying Ground (Woodlane road) Mt. Holly. the first meeting house was also located there. Although the ground is still open for burials, it is now an association cemetery. The Lippincott's were the donors of the grounds and were early trustees, etc. Ironically, today, it is still administered by descendants. There are no really old stones. In 1828 the Philadelphia yearly meeting decreed that all markers should be removed, and none erected for future burials. This went along with their tenet of anonymity in death. However, this was rescinded about 10 years later and instructions were given as to the size of the marker--6" off the ground with name and date on a side and/or top of stone. This is why mid 19th century Friends' Burial Grounds are so distinctive. Even though there is no cemetery name marker more than l one can tell by the size and tidy rows of small stones. Unfortunately this was not the best solution to the problem. Over the years many of these small stones sank and have never been raised. The Friends do keep good minutes in which are recorded all the vital facts about their members. New Jersey kept no death/burial records at a state level.
