Notes on Josephine Martin from the Divorce Petition and her "next friend George Dill" in 7 April 1873-
'I am the wife of William Esch, the libelant in the present case; my name before I march Esch was Josephine Martin. I was married to William Esch the 24th day of April 1869. We were married at Michael Overdorf's in Brush Valley Township, Indiana County; Rev. William Haupt married us- an Evangelical minister. After we were married, and in the 27th of the same month, we took up house keeping; we kept house in Brush Valley; he bought a place from his brother John Esch. We lived in that place together about six months. We moved from there to Buffington township near Dill - Towne.
He has never been back to stay any length of time since we had one child: he says he comes back to see it. My mother and brother have provided for me ever since that time. My husband has never provided for neither myself or child since; he refuses either to live with me or to do anything for me; think he is now working in the Pennsylvania Rail Road."
