General Notes:
According to Dottie Patterson
"Lizzie was born prior to the marriage of William and Catherine (McCormick) Esch. I found Catherine with her parents in 1850, 1860 and 1870 in Indiana County. In 1870, she was living with her father, two younger brothers, and Elizabeth M. McCormick age 8 months. No relationship to the head of the household is given in the 1870 census but presumably she was born to Catherine (Kate) and no word of her father was came down through the family. She was apparently adopted by William as she used the surname Esch. She was in the Johnstown Flood and survived to find herself marooned on top of a house with James Warren Welsh, a "Black" man. They married and had 4 children but separated somewhere along the line as she is listed in the 1930 census as a domestic servant but in 1900 and 1910, she and James were together.. Lizzie Esch is also listed in the 1889 City Directory as a Domestic
Elizabeth married James Welsh in 1891 in Pennsylvania.
