She graduated from Argos High School with the class of 1938. Bertha had worked at the Morgan Telephone Co. in Argos; then nine years at the Argos Post Office and later, eight years as a teller in the State Exchange Bank of Argos. She was a member of the Argos Bible Church and a former member of Eastern Star.

Bertha married Ermel Dean Wilhelm, son of George Alexander Wilhelm and Cora Edith Guise, on 22 Oct 1939 in Metea, Cass County, Indiana. (Ermel Dean Wilhelm was born on 6 Aug 1915 in Bruce Lake Station, Fulton County, IN, died on 19 Aug 1995 in Argos, Marshall County, IN and was buried on 22 Aug 1995 in Maple Grove Cemetery, Sect.5, Row 3, Walnut Twp., Marshall County, IN.)
