Raymond L. Blubaugh
General Notes: Raymond and his family made their home in the house that is now the newly renovated Irish Inn on old U.S. 31. A St. Michael's Academy graduate, Ray was a member of the 1942 graduating class of Lincoln High School in Plymouth. Ray defended our country with honor and distinction. A United States Army veteran, he served in World War II in the European Theater as a Private First Class, Company B, 422nd Infantry. In 1944, in Italy, Ray was awarded The Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. That same year, he earned another Purple Heart with Clusters, for battle in France. He was awarded five Bronze Stars with arrow heads and the Distinguished Bronze Star. In his company, only two members survived the War. He retired from the Plymouth Postal Department as a rural letter carrier after 34 years of dedicated service. Ray was notified on January 8, 1998, that he was one of three surviving members of the1951 postal employees who were with the department when they moved to their expansion facility on Garro Street. For many years he also owned and operated the Marshall County Fire Equipment Company. In early years, he was a journalist. He worked for the Tipton Tribune in Tipton as a sports writer. Ray was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1162 and he belonged to the Plymouth Moose Lodge No. 741. Raymond married Living Calhoun, daughter of Donald Asa Calhoun and Cora Jane Andrews. |
