General Notes:
July 28, 1892 North Manchester News Journal "Residents along the road between this place and the city of Huntington perhaps had no thought , when two or three weeks ago they saw an old man pass on his way towards North Manchester leading a cow, that that man had not seen the light of day since the war. Joseph Ream is well known in this and Huntington counties, having lived many years in Huntington county and often visits his old home by walking across the country. He says: "I hardly ever get lost or miss the way unless the wind is blowing, in which case I become uncertain." We might tell how he goes all over this place at pleasure, finding the door of his church in a distant part of the town, seemingly as easily as if his sight was the best. The electric lights have benefitted him as the light enables passers to see him before colliding with him, when out after night, a thing he formerly avoided by carrying a lantern. Mr Ream lost his sight while in the service of his country and of course draws a pension, bu t if such was not the the case we imagine that he could be found supporting his family by working at the carpenter's trade, rather than be found presiding at the customary hand-organ."
Joseph married Mary Elizabeth Brown on 6 Mar 1851 in Huntington Co. In. (Mary Elizabeth Brown was born on 27 Dec 1833 in York Co. PA, died on 13 Aug 1904 in N. Manchester, Wabash County, Indiana and was buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Wabash Co. In..)
