Don graduated from Argos High School in 1946 and from the International Business College in 1948. Also in1948 he joined Gates Chevrolet in Argos , becoming a partner in 1957 and full owner in 1970 where he operated the business until 1982 when he moved the dealership to Plymouth, continuing there until his retirement in 1990.
Don was a member of the Santa Anna United Methodist Church near Argos. Always active in his community, he was a former Scoutmaster of Troop 255 in Argos, and a former member of the Argos Lions Club, the Argos &Plymouth Chambers of Commerce, Argos Area Industrial Park Board,Plymouth Rotary Club, the Finance Board of the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center (Parkview Hospital) Plymouth and other civic organizations. His interests included the restoration and love of antique automobiles, having won numerous awards for his vehicles both locally and nationally. Don was a former long time member of Hoosier Old Wheels and Vintage Chevrolet Club of America .
Donald married Living Zentz.
