Mary Elmeda Snyder

  General Notes:

Mary never married. During her late teens she developed a condition (never really diagnosed) where she wouldn't sit or lay down. She had to be tied to a chair. Today we would diagnose this condition as ADD. Not knowing what else to do, she was committed to mental hospitals-one of which was Torrance State Hospital. She stayed there until her later life when she was released and became a companion to elderly ladies.

It was because of Aunt Mary's interest and continued communication with family members that I was able to start my oceanology work. She communicated with many family members, gathering information. It is because of her dedication to making everyone in our family aware of this information that we now have it to add to this family history.

Mary was devoted to and deeply cared about her family.
