When Homer Lauffer remarried in 1933, Clare (at age 14), the father of Joseph Clare Lauffer, was asked to leave the home. He went to live on the Baughman farm in Circleville. He graduated from Norwin High School, as did Joseph's mother, Gretchen. In 1947 they moved to Buffalo, NY with Westinghouse where they lived until retirement took them to Columbus, NC.
Clare was an avid walker. He had a heart attack while walking the streets of Irwin where he lived at the time of his death.
Clare married Gretchen W. Miller.
