Howard Wilson Lauffer Sr.
General Notes: Howard retired from the U.S. Army (M/Sgt) in 1959 while stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He worked briefly in McKenzie, Tenn. and in 1961 brought his wife (Mae) and two sons (Billy and Rhodney) to Tucson. He worked for the Tucson Police Department at both the City Farm Prison Annex and the Properties Division, and retired after 20 years of service, having made many wonderful friends there. In 1985, Howard moved to Comanche Wells Mobile Home Park, a community for seniors that became a loving and extended family of friends and where he will be deeply missed. Howard had a knack for bringing a smile to the faces of those in his presence. He was looking forward to the dedication ceremony on Nov. 15 at which a new middle school on Littletown Road in the Sunnyside School District will be named after his deceased son, Billy Lane Lauffer, a Medal of Honor recipient in the Vietnam War. Howard's interment was with military rites at Woodlawn Cemetery (which is a part of Denmark Manor Cemetery) in Penn Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Howard married Constance Agness Damico in 1942. (Constance Agness Damico was born in Jun 1923 and died on 5 May 2003.) Howard next married Ethel Mae Lane in 1942. (Ethel Mae Lane was born on 5 Feb 1930 and died in 1986.) |
