William and Lovenia were listed as both being married for the first time for 44 years and Lovenia had 5 children only 2 of which were living. All 4 adults were listed as being able to read and write. The house was rented and was classified as a house as opposed to a farm. It is interesting to note that Mertice's birth place is listed as Minnesota when in fact it was Iowa. Also William L. lists his father's birth place as Kentucky. Yet Philip Peter Laffer listed his birth place as Virginia which was probably what we now call West Virginia. P. P. Laffer was raised in Kentucky by the Palmers for the early years of his life. Possibly William L. confused birth place with rearing place. William L. is the grandson of Peter Laufer who died in the riverboat explosion of the G. Washington in 1816. Presbyterian
