Christopher Truby
General Notes: July 19, 1763, during the French and Indian War, he was an Ensign in Captain Jacob Wetterholt's Company of York County Militia. At enlistment he was described as 5'9" tall, long faced, with brown hair and eyes. He enlisted in 1776 in the Revolutionary War and served the entire war, in First, Second and Eighth Battalion of Westmoreland County, PA, serving in the capacity of Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel. He was instrumental in the founding of Newtown, Bedford County (since Westmoreland Co.) often referred to as Truby's Town, which later became the present day city of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA. Christopher married Isabella (Sybilla) Bauman, daughter of Hans Dietrick (Dieter) Bauman and Eva Elizabeth Weil, in 1760 in Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. (Isabella (Sybilla) Bauman was born on 24 Nov 1743 in Philadelphia, PA, died on 24 Aug 1801 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and was buried in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA.) |
