Paul Daniel Lauffer
- Born: 23 Jan 1912
- Marriage (1): Ruth Luciene Deming on 19 Jul 1945
- Died: 16 Mar 1977 at age 65
- Buried: Fairfield, Michigan
General Notes:
Paul left school in the eighth grade and hitchhiked through most of the Eastern US. He was a farmer and businessman in Ogden Center and Jasper, Michigan. Paul's son Carson remembers his father and the stories of the hard times: "In the 1930's he was a share cropper with some Oliver equipment. He couldn't make enough money to survive and he had to watch all of his equipment sold at a Sherrif's auction. Though terribly discouraged he picked himself up and became an auctioneer. Poor health and age, he was 29 when WWII began, kept him out of the war. He went from Auctioneer to used car dealer. He sold recapped tires and was able to accumulate enough that in he built a small store in Jasper, Michigan. Soon he developed this into an Appliance and TV store. The Lauffer Appliance store was opened in May 1954, the year his daughter Sherri Lynn was born. He was a rather gruff man but perhaps some of this was due to the many struggles he had to overcome. Though only educated through the eighth grade, he had by the time I was in college, read more of the classic pieces of literature than I had. He loved to talk mostly about de Cervantes, "Don Quixote"."
At the time of his death, Paul and Ruth had seven grandchildren.
Paul married Ruth Luciene Deming, daughter of Seward Chandler Deming and Ester Dickerson, on 19 Jul 1945. (Ruth Luciene Deming was born on 20 Oct 1924, died on 29 Jun 2002 and was buried in Lyons, Ohio.)
Marriage Notes:
Ruth was Paul's second wife. The first marriage from 1933 to approximately 1945 produced no children.
