Solomon E. Loffer was one of the most successful Agriculturist of Logan County, Ohio,.After attending Wittenberg College at Springfield Ohio, one term and them he took a course in business at the college in Delaware, Ohio. He then taught in the schools of Bloomfield for five years and one term in Carroll County Missouri in 1876.
After his marriage, he bought 96 acres of the home farm and resided on it until march 1886, when he hired a man to operate it and moved to DeGraff. He and his brother, Jacob S., formed a partnership under the firm name of Loffer Brothers, to buy and ship stock. They were quite extensively engaged in the business venture- shipping cattle, sheep and hogs to Cleveland and Buffalo. In 1890, they opened an agricultural store in DeGraff, but after 18 months, sold out. In two years' time, they sold one hundred binders and mowers.
In 1899 Solomon bought another farm of 103 acres in Miami Township, one and a half miles from town, where he farmed and raised cattle. In April 1892, he bought the present farm of 63 acres, which has a fine brick residence. He was seen as a shrewd, far seeing businessman.
Though his father, Solomon Teagarden Loffer was a Democrat, Soloman advocated the platform of the Republican Party. He was a Clerk of Bloomfield Township, a member of the school board, and President of the school board at the same time. He was a member of the Free Masons. He was a stockholder and President of the Citizens' Oil and Gas Col., and a director of the Building and Loan Association.
