  General Notes:

According to William Fox, James spoke German, and was frequently heard conversing in German with his sister Mary E. Fox.
James appears in the 1890 tax records for District S, Hempfield Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. He lived near Hunker, and his occupation was laborer. He was accessed for his house and lot, and his one cow. The total assessment was $6.05; therefore, the County Tax was $3.03.
James appeared in the 1910 U.S. Census, living with his wife Lilly in Sewickley Township, on a farm that they rented on what is the present-day site of the Westinghouse Nuclear facility. Grace E. Washabaugh Fox reports that the farm was owned by the Rocker family.
After James died intestate, an inventory and appraisement of his personal property was conducted and filed in The Orphans Court of Westmoreland County, Pa. It reads as follows:
