General Notes:
Simon Frank and Ruth were married in the Lutheran church in Greensburg, PA. Frank received his education at Fisher School, United, PA. He attended the Reform Church, Trauger with his family. Frank worked as Pit Boss at Mutual Coal Works during early married life; he and his wife lived in a carriage house on his parent's home place, now Greensburg Sportsman Club. In the fall of 1914 he purchased property near his home place and eventually established Walnut Dell Farm, building his registered Guernsey Dairy herd. He spent several years clearing land to develop for farming, rebuilding barns, sheds, adding rose beds and fruit orchard improvements with the help of his uncle, Will Lauffer. Over time Frank purchased additional property from Ira Truxal, and then Daisy Rumbaugh to complete his farm and lifelong residence. He was actively involved in the local milk board meetings. Frank experienced many transitions in farming practices; farming with horses became mechanized with his first Fordson tractor. In 1944 electricity moved Frank from hand milking his dairy herd to the new era of pneumatic milking machines. He and Ruth shared 64 years of marriage. Frank was an avid reader, a lover of history but most of all a strong advocate for farmland preservation
Simon married Ruth Eva Albright, daughter of George Albright and Elizabeth Hanna Kepple, on 1 Jan 1913. (Ruth Eva Albright was born on 22 Feb 1891 in Armbrust, Westmoreland Co., PA and died on 31 Jan 1977.)
