Baltzer Roller
General Notes: In 1795 Balser Roller removed to Eastern Tennessee, but disliking the institution of slavery, in the fall of 1802 removed back to Beaver County, Penn. near Greersburg, now Darlington, and in the year 1803 on the 2nd of March he moved on section 36, Green Township, Columbiana County, Ohio just as the county was organized. This township is now included in Mahoning County, then an unbroken wilderness as there was only one family in the township. In 1809, Baltzer and his brother Michael donated land for a church and cemetery of the new town of Washingtonville. They built a log structure, called the Roller Meeting House, which in 1810 became the first Evangelical Lutheran Church for the village. Baltzer married Alse Rose. (Alse Rose was born on 3 Mar 1764 in Pennsylvania, died on 6 Feb 1847 in Mahoning Co, OH and was buried in Trinity Lutheran Cem. Green Twp., Washingtonville, Columbiana Co. OH..) |
