As secretary of the publication committee, Charles compiled for the printers most of the data presented in the original Lauffer History book which was published in September 1905. Charles received his A. B. degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1900 and his A.M., M. D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1905. He was resident physician at the Chester hospital, Chester, PA. during the printing of the first Lauffer History Book. Charles studied in Vienna and Berlin and held the appointment of Medical Director of the Relief Department of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company at East Pittsburgh. He wrote several books related to medical treatment. He had the first publication on resuscitation from electrical shock. This publication was instrumental in the procedure to resuscitate drowning victims. His residence and office were at South avenue, PA which is still standing but in a bad section of town.
From St. Petersburg Times 4 Jan 1946: DR CHARLES A. LAUFFER 70, former medical director of Westinghouse corporation and retired EMT specialist, died Friday morning at his home, 930 Fourteenth avenue north. • A Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Lauffer received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania school of medicine, receiving further specialized training in Vienna and Berlin. He retired from active practice in Wilkinsburg, 12 years ago and came to this city. A 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner, he was also a member of the 100F , and the First Congregational Church.
