George Price (Preiss)

  General Notes:

In 1774 George settled on land , bought for him by his father, in Nantmeal Twp. Chester Co. Pa. In 1794 he moved to Coventry Twp. in Chester Co. He became a leader in the Coventry church, which was organized as early as Nov. 7. 1724 (the second church in America).. In 1797, he was ordained to the office of Bishop or Elder, being the third elected in this church. Under his administration the church flourished and grew in numbers to such an extent that the log house in which these devout people worshipped was found too small to accommodate them, so that in 1817 the second building as erected. Besides his duties in his own church, he traveled considerably, visiting other churches of like denomination. It was on these horseback journeys that his son John, then quite a small boy, generally accompanied him. Elder Price attended many of the yearly meetings of the church and he took an active part in its proceedings .

George married Sarah Harley, daughter of Rudolph Harley and Mary Becker, in Lampeter Twp. Lancaster Co. PA. (Sarah Harley was born on 20 Jun 1756 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and died on 23 Sep 1799 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.)
