General Notes:
David Retherford married Elizabeth L. Hall, daughter of Robert Hall, who taught school in England. With two of his brothers and sister Sally they came to Kentucky. Sally never married; was Henry Clay's house keeper. Henry Clay gave her a set of silver teaspoons.
David and Elizabeth Retherford came from Bourbon County, Kentucky,to Indiana in 1836, stopping first in Decatur County, removed the following year to Rush County, on a farm northeast of Rushville owned by Brook Talbott, an old neighbor in Bourbon County, Kentucky. He afterwards bought a farm of eighty acres of John McMillen one mile north of Rushville. He paid, $900.00 for this farm. He bought' forty acres on the east of the eighty he first bought and built a house on it in 1856. They went to the woods, on the farm and cut the timber. It took almost a year to build it. Drury Fleener, was the contractor. The house with some addition's is still standing! in a good state of preservation. When David and Elizabeth emigrated from Bourbon County, Kentucky to Indiana, they brought their household goods, and implements in two covered wagons and drove their stock. They crossed the Ohio river on a flat boat.
David married Elizabeth Longdon Hall, daughter of Robert Hall and Prudence Pryor, on 9 Jan 1834 in Fayette County, Kentucky. (Elizabeth Longdon Hall was born on 23 Jul 1811 in KY. and died on 2 Feb 1896 in Rushville, IN.)
