GEORGE M. HARTZELL, a pleasantly-located and progressive farmer of Mt. Pleasant township was born in Mt. Pleasant township, Westmoreland county, Pa., July 24, 1852. His paternal grandfather, George Hartzell, was born east of the Alleghenies and migrated to Mt. Pleasant township where is died. George was reared in Mt. Pleasant township where he received his education in the common schools. He then engaged in farming and stock raising which he has followed ever since. His farm contains one hundred and sixty-eight acres of well-improved land on which he has erected good buildings. He has one of the finest farm residences to be found in the township. It is a large three-story frame dwelling with basement containing ten rooms, wide reception halls, pantry, front and rear porches and is modern and complete in all its arrangements. In politics Mr. Hartzell was a republican and was elected school director in 1888 for the term of three years. He was an influential member of the Reformed church but his wife is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church.
George married Jennie P. Lobingier, daughter of John C. Lobingier and Unknown, on 20 Sep 1877.
