John is listed on the 1790 Census for Maryland- as John Estgrig and in 1794 he registered for the Baltimore County Miliiia. Shortly after that John and Helen moved to Huntingdon Co, PA for on Aug 30, 1798 he purchased "White Oak Bottom" in Huntingdon Co, PA and in 1804 he is listed on the Tax List for Springfield Township, Huntingdon Co, PA as having 200 acres and 2 horses.
John was involved in the community. He was Constable for Springfield Twp. in 1809 & 1821 and also served as supervisor for the Township for various years.
John married Helen (Elinor) Dimmitt, daughter of William Dimmitt and Rosa (Rosanna) Pemberton, on 15 Apr 1786 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland. (Helen (Elinor) Dimmitt was born in 1767 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland and died about 1825.)
