bullet  General Notes:

Mahala lived with her parents in 1900 in Hampton, Marion County, Arkansas. Not a lot is known about Mahala. We know she had a child out of wedlock in 1901, an event that didn't happen a lot at the turn of the century. Many years later in a conversation with a granddaughter, Sylvia Jane Loffer said that her sister committed suicide. She said it was because Mahala couldn't live with the stigma of having a child out of wedlock.

In Marion County Arkansas Mahala's name appears on a homestead deed for 40 acres of land. This parcel connected on the East Side to 80 acres being homesteaded by her half-brother, Charles Wesley Loffer. The 160-acre parcel on the South side belonged to her father, Henry Sylvester Loffer.

The last official record of Mahala is the 1910 Census. Mahala and her daughter Walsa Mae "Walsie" were living with Mahala's parents, Henry and Sarah Loffer in Bruno, AR. It is known that Walsie moved to Oklahoma with her grandmother, Sarah, after Henry died in 1913.
