John was not as political as his older brother, Simon, but he served in Watertown as selectman in 1674, 1681-1687, and 1690 and was also a deacon in the Watertown church.
John married Sarah Bass, daughter of Dea Samuel Bass and Anne. (Sarah Bass was born about 1640 and died about 1740 in Braintree, Massachusetts.)
