Ruth Arline Allanson
General Notes: Ruth and 'Waddy' Wattleworth lived in a beautiful riverboat pilot's house overlooking the Galena River in Galena, Illinois, where they raised their two sons, Joseph Allanson Wattleworth and Anthony Steele Wattleworth. The house was built in 1836 and is one of the oldest homes in Galena. Waddy kept carrier pigeons as a hobby and had a pigeon coop and house behind the main house. Following Ruth's death, the house was converted into a Bed and Breakfast to serve the town's significant tourist trade, named the Captain Harris Guest House, located at 713 South Bench Street, Galena, Illinois. The pigeon house now serves as the honeymoon cottage. Ruth Allanson attended Shimer College, where she was 'Queen of the May'. Ruth married. |
