General Notes:
Isaac lived on the Old Homestead and did farming. After the death of his father, he bought the farm. He was a member of Company I, 11th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He enlisted February 20, 1863 in Westmoreland County and was mustered into service in Greensburg to serve for three years as private under Capt. Richard Coulter. The regiment was assigned to the Second Brigade, 3rd Division of the Fifth Army Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The Battles in which Isaac and his brother David were engaged were: Wilderness; Cold Harbor; Weldon Railroad; White Oak Ridge; Spottsylvania; Betthesda; Hickford's Raid; Five Forks; North Ann; Petersburg; Hatcher's Run; Appomattox. At the close of the war, he sold the farm and bought an interest in a general store in Middletown from Osterwise and his son. The firm was later know as Osterwise and Wentzel. Later he bought out Osterwise. When a Post Office was established in Middletown, names "Gibbs Postoffice" he was appointed Postmaster. Isaac, Catherine and children are buried in Harrold's Reformed Church Cemetery.
