William Daniel Loffer
General Notes: When William was seven the family moved by covered wagon from Leadhill, to Bruno, Arkansas, where Henry opened a combination Blacksmith/Wood shop on homesteaded land. As did his brother Tom, William learned the craft of carpentry from his father. He worked side-by-side with Tom, building platforms and doing other carpentry work around the mines of Arkansas. About 1916, William and Damey followed Tom and Lucy Loffer to Miami, Oklahoma where William went to work for the Eagle Pitcher Mining Company in nearby, Pitcher, Oklahoma. About 1933, William moved his family to Salina, in Mayes County, hoping to improve his poor health, due to years spent in the lead and zinc mines. William and Damey were Christian people and they attended church regularly. William passed away in 1947, from miner's black lung disease. William married Martha Didammie (Damey) Adams, daughter of Greenberry Adams Jr. and Bashba Louise Herrington, on 8 Oct 1907 in Bruno, Marion County, Arkansas. (Martha Didammie (Damey) Adams was born on 9 Feb 1884 in Bruno, Marion County, Arkansas and died on 23 Apr 1958 in Salina, Mayes Co., OK.) |
