Velma Doris (Roxy) Loffer
General Notes: Roxy's given name was Velma Doris, but she was called "Roxy", as she was growing up. Her daughter, Rhonda said: "she had a wonderful childhood. She was very protected and spoiled. She was the youngest of six kids, the only girl, and her family doted on her." She began her working career teaching in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, in Cherokee County. The district paid her $75.00 a month for teaching 75 children grades one through twelve, in a one room school. She walked, or rode her horse 3 miles to and from school every day. After a year of teaching she put her bookkeeping skills to use for the Scott-Rice Paper Co. In 1948 she moved to California to be with her old friend Frieda, started using her middle name" Doris "and met a handsome redhead. Doris became a preacher's wife in 1949 when she married that redhead - his name was Loran Biggs. She loved to work with children and the elderly and they loved her. Doris had a green thumb, anything she planted or even just threw out the window grew like Jack's bean stalk. She was also very artistic and had unique problem solving abilities. Doris was a great judge of character and had a dry sense of humor. She was wonderful to be with. She passed away at the age of 77, of Parkinson 's disease. Velma married Rev.
