bullet  General Notes:

Alexander Leonard and his family lived on North First Street in the City of Jeannette. His home is now the residence of the Mason-Gelder Funeral Home.
Alexander enlisted in the Civil War and was stationed in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. During that time, he kept a diary of his life during the turmoil between the North and the South. He wrote (phonetically) in his diary the daily occurrences that happened around him. (Linda Soles has copy) Because he was ill during his enlistment, he would not take any pay for his service as a soldier.
Alexander and Julie Ann Leonard had three children, Harry David, Laura and Alexander. Every Sunday, they would come by horse and buggy to the First Reformed Church in Greensburg to worship services.
When Laura was 9 years old, she stepped on a rusty nail, developed blood poisoning, and died. It was about this time, the Grace Reformed Church was being constructed in Jeannette. As a memorial to their daughter, Laura, a beautiful stained glass window was put in the church. This window is the large window above the front entrance as you come into the church from Second Street.
Alexander and all of his family are buried in the Jeannette Memorial Cemetery.
