Ida Ferree

  General Notes:

Grandma Darr never worked outside the home as she raised nine children. In her spare time, she made quilts, and I was given one of the last ones that she made as a wedding present. She always had baked goods in the house. The whole family gathered at her home for Christmas every year. My uncle used to dress as Santa and give out he gifts. What special memories. We had to stop when we outgrew the space.
She used to baby sit for us when we were sick and could not go to school. Whenever we were there, she would let us make a milk pie. It was made in a pie pan for one person. She would make the crust and pour out a small amount of milk, sugar and cinnamon and bake it. It tasted so good!
I would take her to the grocery store when she was in her 80's, and she always insisted on paying me for the ride. I always refused but she would hear none of it so I took it. Her company was more important. She died in a nursing home at the age of 95. She decided when she could no longer take care of herself and told her children when she was ready.


Grandma Darr never had an automatic washer; she always used a wringer washer. She had a special cabinet that held her goodies, and we went to that cupboard every time we went to her house. ------Cindy Wildasin

Ida married William Garfield Darr. (William Garfield Darr was born on 28 Oct 1882, died on 17 Jan 1970 and was buried in Salem Lutheran Church, Jacobus PA.)
